ART AND PEACE
In beginning years of
the 21st century, typified so tragically and so brutally by the ravages of total war on society, and of the all pervasive
pathological effects of fear induced by threats and deeds of terrorism, what can be termed the most pressing need of the global
community being forged in our time by forces of modern technology and commerce?
Vastly simplified as my answer may be I believe that the solution lies in the attainment of universal peace in
a unification of ALL humanity in a societal milieu of tranquility and order. What has such an ideal got to do with the
properties and the goals of Art and the Artist? Art is an achievable nobility
and glory of the human intellect, which disposes the mind to the contemplation of Beauty and Truth, prerequisite to the implementation
of Peace. Thus the altruistic vocation of the artist, maker of beauty and
disciple of truth, is to be a peacemaker, a living exemplar of the message he attests to.
